Nichola is a disabled female photographer who is passionate about digital photography, portraiture, and socially engaged projects. Her background in psychology has fuelled her deep curiosity about people, inspiring her to create deep visual narratives that reveal the inner complexities of her subjects.
Nichola is committed to helping raise the voices of underrepresented communities, particularly disabled and visually impaired artists, to raise awareness around inclusivity issues within art education and the wider art industry.
Through portraiture, Nichola showcases strength, resilience, and the vast creativity that exists beyond the perceived limitations surrounding disability. Her work invites the viewer to recognise the extraordinary beauty and potential within every individual.
Preconception and Invisible Worlds directly confront ableist stereotypes and prejudices about disability and visual impairment.
On a personal level, Nicola says, photography has been a transformative force in my life. It allows me to connect deeply with others, fostering personal growth and sharing a profound sense of fulfilment.
I have worked with The Black Country Chamber of Commerce for their quarterly publication, Prosper and collaborated with Wolverhampton University, highlighting their sports teams and individual scholarships. I have also worked with The Disabled Photographers Society, collaborating with other disabled photographers and alongside The Beacon Centre for the Blind to produce a project that explored photography and visual impairment. I have exhibited work at the Newhapton Art Gallery Wolverhampton (May, 2023) and won Spaceplay’s 2023 competition to celebrate the iconic Wolverhampton School of Art building. I was also privileged to be chosen to have my work included in the first exhibition held by Women in Photography Birmingham, which took place at Centrala Gallery, Birmingham (March, 2024).
